FWA Makes Major Donation to the Hollywood Reporter Ad Fund! 04/20/05 The FWA is happy to announce that we have voted to allocate $500 to FMD's Hollywood Reporter Ad Fund and put them well on their way toward their goal of $5055! Buy Ben's Audio Book Have you heard about Ben's audiobook? Ben Browder narrated Interlopers, an Alan Dean Foster novel, for Buzzy Multimedia. It's in presales now, with delivery planned for October, at $45.00 for an 8 CD set. Word has it that Ben's wonderful voice and acting ability are making for a terrific audiobook. If you were thinking of purchasing the Interlopers, clicking through and buying from this site (and other participating sites) will send a small percentage of that sale to the To Be Continued fund, the general fund for the promotion of Farscape that the FWA oversees.
Buzzy Multimedia has been most helpful and flexible in accommodating to our time limits due to the need for funds to promote the upcoming miniseries, and has even donated an audiobook and gift certificate to the cause. We owe them a big thank you! (and keep an eye for those donations to be auctioned off in the future.) The FWA's Plan B - 5/5/04 This is our statement of intent. It gives our purpose and goals, and shows to what use funds donated to the To Be Continued Fund would be put. Long Term Goals The Farscape Webmaster’s Association was formed primarily to help Farscape websites promote Farscape and disseminate information about Farscape and the Save Farscape Campaign throughout the internet. Because of the nature of the internet, it is not enough to have information pooled in one spot or just a few spots. The more widely spread that news and information about Farscape is, the more people we can reach. Because of the nature of Farscape, there are many different focuses of interest in the show, and different Farscape fans are attracted to the sites that focus on those interests. Every website, email list and group is important for the goal of maintaining and growing a Farscape presence on the web, no matter how large or small the site. To further that goal, the FWA wants to:
Short Term Goals We have a mini to promote! Sometime in the fourth quarter of 2004 the Scifi Channel will be showing the brand new Farscape miniseries, Farscape: Peacekeeper War. Every indication from the PTB is that this is not the end. "We Don’t Need No Stinkin' Ending!" to quote Ben Browder. The ratings on the mini need to be good for Farscape to continue as a franchise in the future. Because we do not anticipate having a large amount of funds to do this with, and because SaveFarscape.com already has an ambitious tv advertising project, we intend to concentrate on smaller projects that are designed to gain new eyeballs, bring old viewers back to the fold, and let everyone know that the coolest miniseries ever is going to hit their tv sets. We want to support creative and innovative (and fun!) ideas, and support the people on the ground that are working so hard to bring new viewers to Farscape. Timing is important in marketing. We plan to support efforts that create 'buzz' all through the summer, and save advertising efforts for the fall, preferably about a month before the miniseries. On the national level, that might include any project that is designed to promote Farscape in a very wide and broad way. You might think that because we’re concentrating on smaller, less expensive projects that it wouldn’t cover anything so widespread, but that’s not necessarily so. An example would be the PBS project, where donations of Farscape swag were sent to PBS stations over much of the country. This was a project that did not require large amounts of funds or fan participation, but reached farther than the local level.
Some things that the FWA fund might cover would be advertising the mini (not excluding radio, tv, print, or internet), costs for do-it-yourself reporting, convention costs, investing in fundraisers for the fund, promotional materials, Farscape swag for giveaways, donations that provide Farscape DVDs to new groups of viewers, shipping, P.O.Boxes, phone numbers, etc. We do not fund charity donations that do not also push Farscape, because the point of charities is to show the generosity of individual Scapers. We would, however, help with the promotion and cost of materials for getting press for those charity events. We will not cover the cost of server space for this or any other website. We webmasters all have sites, boards, etc to support and we wish to avoid problems with self-interest. We don’t cover thank you ads or gifts or ads or gifts for congratulations to cast and crew. While they have a place in the campaign, they do not promote Farscape outside of the fandom. Only Scaper creations (DVDs, books, buttons, etc) that are fundraisers or promotional materials can be funded. Projects intended for Scapers that are not also fundraisers or promotional materials do not come under our auspices. This plan is not intended to be a legal document or to obligate the voting members of the FWA. It is simply a statement of our goals, and the intents and purposes that donations will be used for. The members have always, and will always, use the funds entrusted to them as responsibly as they know how. We reserve the right to change direction as new information or circumstances might indicate would be best to do so. As always, we exist to help you help Farscape. Thanks to each and every Scaper that has ever contributed money, work, ideas, or just plain old emotional support to the cause. Every contribution is valuable and appreciated. For Farscape! What is the FWA and Why does it Exist? Primarily, the FWA exists to help the fans of Farscape (aka Scapers) promote the show in order to get a fifth season of Farscape. (more.....) Announcing the "To Be Continued..." Fund and The FWA ForFarscape Forum As you may have seen announced at SaveFarscape.com, the Where's My Riot Fund is in the process of changing administrators. Jul, the fund's current administrator, is going to concentrate on the Special Projects funds at savefarscape.com. Xenajules, the FWA's newly elected administrator, will be taking over the reins of the "Where's My Riot" fund for the FWA (Farscape Webmasters Association). The funds remaining from the "Where's My Riot" fund will continue to be allocated to Scaper projects as they have in the past. Projects supported by the "Where's My Riot" fund have included TV, radio, internet and print advertising as well as funding convention presence and Saturn Award coverage. The list of supported projects is long, amazing and a tribute to Scaper ingenuity. HELL YEAH ! All new donations will be accepted to the newly created, FWA managed "To Be Continued..." fund. This fund will continue to give Scapers a trusted place to donate their funds by supporting Scaper initiatives aligned with clear objectives for the fund and publishing regular updates on how donated funds are spent. Donate to the "To Be Continued..." fund by clicking on the PayPal donation button: In an effort to refine communication, the FWA has created this forum for all Scapers to use and share information. The forum is a place for Scapers to meet and brainstorm on projects, get updates on funding and swap Farscape news and information. It is our hope that the new board will make the FWA more available, funding of smaller and individual campaign projects easier, and news and information more accessible. Visit the forum, poke around, kick the tires by registering and posting. Let us know if there's anything you'd like to add or see on the new board. We value your input. Who Are The Members of the FWA? Just who are we? We all have web sites you may visit from time to time or some quite often. Many of us are people you chat with at other forums, boards or chat rooms all the time. Or, we may be so busy running our own web sites we don't often have time to visit other boards and chat rooms, but we sure do try! You may have met us at various cons. We're not strangers nor have we meant to be mysterious about who we were in the past. But now we've set up this web site (more on that coming soon!) and a forum so you can contact us directly. Oh, I almost forgot! Here's the list of our web sites and who we are:
If you have any problems with this web site, you can email njak. Thanks for visiting. We look forward to seeing you posting on the board and letting us know what *you* want to see here in order to make communicating with us easy and enable you to get funding for your projects. njak/Julie | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
